Your One Wild and Precious Life

In the spirit of my alma mater’s first-ever “Shout Out St. Kate’s Day” today, I thought I’d share something very simple, and very influential, that I was first introduced to during my time as an undergrad at St. Catherine University in St. Paul.

It’s a question; it’s a quotation.  It comes from Mary Oliver’s poem “The Summer Day”:

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”

That quote hit me at the right time, and I still think of it often.  College was delicious.   Thanks for sharing it with me—and for everything else, St. Kate’s.
