An Essay in High Country News

In my first month in Missoula in 2010, I wrote an essay about being new to a place.  Now, a few weeks after leaving Missoula and a few days before becoming a newcomer to a completely different place, that essay is appearing in the magazine and on the website of High Country News.

I’m delighted to share this piece.  It started as a long and loose first draft, but it has come a long way since then–thanks to the help of my adviser and writing colleagues in Montana and editors at High Country News.  If you’re interested, you can read the full-text essay online here:  http://www.hcn.org/issues/44.10/learning-a-landscape-by-tracking-its-rivers.

Here’s to the force that guides all processes and became a name for this blog:  flow!
